Medical Sage

Family: Lamiaceae

Medical Use: antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic, antifebrile (decrease fever), gas reliefer, general stimulant, hiperhidrozis (against over sudation), emphysema, wound healer

Parts: Leafs and buds of flower

Side effect:

  • No serious side effect in recommended dose.
  • If boiled or infused too long, can be effect toxic.
  • Can decrease blood presure.

Drug interaction:

  • Can decrease the effectiveness of medications used to prevent seizures.
  • Can make downsiness, interact with antidepressants, sedatives.

Warnings:

  • Dont take more than 6mg Thujone in one day, it is neurotoxic. Dont use over stated amount or infuse/boil over.
  • Can decrase bloodpresure.

How to Use:

Internaly:

Tea(infusion): 1 turkish tea spoon fine grinded herb, dry or fresh, add 150ml boiled water, brew for 10-15min, than filter. Drink 2-3 times daily fresh brewd.

Wein liqueur: Put 100g of herb into a litre of good wine. Let rest for 10 days and filter. Use preventative or healer in small dose.

Emphysema:

Tea(infusion): 5g fine grinded dry herb, add 150ml boiled water, brew for 10-15min, than filter. Drink 2-3 times daily fresh brewd.

Externaly:

Tincture(1:10, %70 ethanol): Put 5-10ml tincture in 100ml water and gargle or aplly wounded area

The term ‘salvia’ comes from latine word ‘salvare’, which means healing.

It growns in south and west Europa. But the variate, named Salvia Triloba L. growns in Anatolia, can be used for similar aims. The content is similar, execpt ‘salvin’ which operates on RNA synthesis of Virus, cant be found in S. Tiloba L.

The history of use can be tracked to 2000bc. It is known that the ancient Egyptens have used it by pregnancy.

An old expression about importance of this herb, which should have been expressed at Salerno School, asks: “Why a person with Salvia in his garden would die at all?” and answers: “There is no answer to death in a garden!”

Family: Rosaceae

Medical use: anti-inflamatuar, loss of apetit, blood cleaner, kidney inflamations, diuretic, organise mensturation, lack of vitamin C, antiseptic, flue, fever, diabetes, gastrointestinal and cardiovasculer disorders, diet drink

Parts: Leafs and flowers, young shoots. Also fruits

Side effects:
  • No side effect expected in recommended dose.
  • Can act as an estrogen, recommended to use under a doctors control
  • Can decrease blood suger.
Drug interaction:

Warnings:
  • Nor recommended under 18 age.
  • There is a little risk of alergic reaction, if so dont use.
  • Dont drink tea of herb longer than 3 days or gargle longer than one week without consulting a doctor.

1 raspberry juice: 2 wine vinegar mix. Mostly mixed 1:1 with water while drinik. 1-2 spoon a dose.

Farming of Raspberry has started at middle age but its known due to archeological evidence of seeds that its already somehow cultivated long before that. Started to used in 16century as medicine.

Holland, Spain, France and Portugal count it in pharmacopeia.

In Skandinavien traditionaly used in pregnancy for many benefits but clinical results about that is controversial.

Vinegar mixed with raspberry is a good support for heart. Fruits and its products can used for getting better after illness and surgery.

Content: Ellagic and citric acids, vitamin C, phenolics. Anthocyanins cyanidin-3-sophoroside, cyanidin-3-(2(G)-glucosylrutinoside), cyanidin-3-glucoside, lambertianin C, trace levels of flavonols, hydroxycinnamate.
100 g raspberies contains about 40 mg calcium, 30 mg magnesium, 170 mg potassium, 25 mg vitamin C.

Family: Menyanthaceae

Medical Use: Loss of appetite, fever, gastrointestinal (stomach, intestine), menstrual cycle .

Parts: Leafs. Some records suggest, flowers can be used together.

Side effects:
  • No serious side effect in recommended dose. Can irritate gastrointestinal tract at high dose.

Drug interaction:
  • Can interact with blood thinners (Anticoagulant).

Warnings:
  • Can be bad if having any of dysentery, colitis, diarrhea
  • Can be dangerous if there is risk of bleed.

How to Use:

Internaly: 

Muscle pain, neurotic pain, itch, irritable bowel, intestine inflammation and parasites, sedative, vomit, migraine: Tea: 10-15 piece leaf, smash lightly, add 150ml boiled water, brew 3-5min, drink hot. 2 times a day Neurotic pain, migraine: Essential oil: One spoon oil in a bowl, fullfilled with hot water. Inhale its steam. Also oil can spread between upper lip and nose to inhale

Neurotic pain, migraine: Essential oil: Simply apply it on areas with pain Antiseptic: Essential oil: 2-3 drops in 100ml water, gargle and rinse with it

Name Mentha considered to came from greek ‘minytho: microbe cleaner’ or indish ‘manta: smash and rub’. Peppermint is a natural hybrid of M. aquatica (watermint) and M. spicata (spearmint, common mint).

Even other varieties have been used to medical purpose, today only M. Piperita and M haplocalyx distinguis as medicine. Peppermint has spread today to all regions of world.

Name Centaurium comes from mythological creature, man-horse (centaur). It is called also Chironieae too, refered to master herbal healer Chiron. The specification of this strain Erythraea points its red flowers (greek ‘red’). Romans have named it as felis terrae.
