PRUNUS SPINOSA L

Blackthorne, Sloe

Family: Rosaceae

Medical use: General stimulant, diuretic, sudorific, acne, dysentery, loss of apetite

Parts: Flowers, fruits, leafs and barks

  • No side effect reported in recommended dose
  • It shouldent be confused with Prunus Africana

How to Use:

Internaly:

Acne:

5g of flowers, add 150ml boiled water, brew 10min, filter. One cup at morning and night.

General stimulant, diuretic, sudorific, loss of apetite:

3g of flower, add 150ml boiled water, brew 5min. Filter. Drink 30min before lunch. Also at breakfeast a small porsion of its marmelade can be eaten or a little cup of its wine.

Dysentery:

50g seedless fruit and 10g leaf, flower (or bark) mix, let rest in 1lt red wein for a couple hours, than boil for 5min, filter. Start with 3 cups a day, reduce amount daily, use for a couple weeks

Naturaly growns in Europe, Asia and North America. In south european ancient civilizations (Romans, Greeks) its been used medicaly.

Fruits are to be use by wine and liqueur production.

Content: Flavonoids (Quercetin, Kaempferol, Binofuranoside), anthocyanins and phenolic acids, nutrients like vitamin A (beta-carotene), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B9 (folic acid), vitamin C and vitamin E, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, sulfur and magnesium
